Social Realities
Though, I've not been blogging consistently since a very
long time due to my own personal (prior) commitments to something else. But
this time I had to because of the involvement of large group of people in this
(with less shame or absolutely no shame.)
Let me start with a very simple question by an ignorant
random friend of mine;
“If a woman hits a guy its okay but if a guy
hits a woman it’s not? Why such Hash Tag Double standards???”
To which I answered, “because Hash Tag hitting or violence is
not the answer to any problem unless it’s a matter of national security. And if
you think beating women or men will bring national peace and integrity or even
peace at domestic level then you are just another Hash Tag a**hole.”

2) A lady gets punched on a Russian show. Link here.
3) Rohtak girls. The other side? Link here.
In first matter religion and liquor was involved. In next a
nagging women on a reality show and in last matter people are still busy switching sides while in
search of truth. But these are just examples in recent times. What about times
and places where no media covers the matter or no one takes out his/her ‘smart’phone
to shoot a video and at places where self-born moral policing sleeps?
Why men want equality only in cases where he
hits a woman?
Why is it so (especially in our country) that
women blindly (or say socially scared/suppressed/insecure) support her husband
post domestic cruelties?
What is the status of verbal abuse in respect of
physical violence?
But before we look for answer, here’s a personally
encountered insight of a common man from outskirt village of Delhi;
‘Women want equality
and that's how it is given’ says a random man whom I met yesterday during Mega
Lok Adalat yesterday. ‘Punch her, slap her, keep her on the edge of stick because only that way she'll respect you and listen to you’ he continues, ‘It’s easier for them to get everything in life. Even
laws support them.’ These were the lines from a farmer who believed that his
wife’s life was way easier.
On the other hand there was a lady who had filed for divorce
anomaly because his husband was willing to leave her and according to her husband
he wanted divorce because he was tired of all the verbal harassment and wanted
peace.
These all are connected… connected with the morals that we
carry as an individual and as a society. Suppressing/harassing any individual
irrespective of their gender, caste, colour, religion is wrong.
Even any special favor to any particular
gender/caste/religion is done only because of their history of exploitation by others.
And this also does not give them freedom to exploit others as revenge or any
other reason.
Put fingers in your ear and you can avoid noises which may harm
you but putting fingers to avoid hearing what’s wrong around you, does no good.
Judging book by its cover and language is Victorian hangover. Even if you cannot
speak properly, write properly, you have right to be heard or read.
Problem with our pseudo-intellectual generation is that they
find it offensive if a finger with bad/ugly/horrible nail representation points
something immoral. Immorality may exists but how dare of this ugliness to exist.
Equality means equality in opportunities, equality in way of
living, equality means men is equal to women, it definitely does not
mean not men hitting women is equal to women hitting men or men hitting
women is equal to women bullying men or women beating man because she can. Equality means equality in social representation, Equality
in sharing resources, happiness etc.
These recent examples post several questions in front us. And the solution does not lie in hands on any particular gender/race/religion. Co-existence in peace is what humanity needs.
Change brought to an individual should not be biased.
Summing up righteousness in one article would be equivalent to summing up millennium
of biasness in a plank second.
Before I conclude I would like to appreciate NALSA for organizing Mega Lok Adalats and Indian Judiciary for being literally a watchful silent guardian.
